MILLINGTON — Millington softball closed its regular season Wednesday with a split against Brown City, cruising to a 12-1 victory in the opener before falling 9-7 in the nightcap. The Cardinals used a balanced offensive attack and another strong pitching performance from Ashlyn Bentoski to take Game 1 in six innings. Logan Matusik sparked the offense by reaching base four times, collecting three hits, and scoring four runs. Karlie Sherman drove in four runs on two hits, while Makenna Klauka added two hits and three RBIs. Bentoski helped her own cause with a hit and two RBIs as Millington scored five runs in the fifth inning and four more in the sixth to pull away. In the circle, Bentoski limited Brown City to five hits and one unearned run while striking out five in a complete-game effort. The nightcap featured a late Millington rally, but Brown City held on for the split. Trailing 8-0 entering the fifth inning, the Cardinals scored five runs in the frame and added two more in the seventh to make things interesting. Klauka led the offense with three hits and an RBI, while Kamryn Blackmer, Bentoski, Zella Hascall, and Karily Dickson each drove in runs. Millington finished with 10 hits in the loss. With the split, the Cardinals turn their attention back to postseason play. Millington will travel to Bad Axe on Saturday, June 6, for a Division 3 regional semifinal matchup against Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
